As I was listening to a webcast on the Fruit of the Spirit and how the Spirit directs us, it occurred to me that I haven’t given God enough to work with.
Let me explain . . .
If I want God to speak to me, I’ll need to be able to understand what he’s telling me by being familiar with His vernacular. What good would it do for him to speak to me in an unfamiliar language? Therefore for proper communication to take place, I need to speak the same language and understand the meaning of the words being used.
That’s obvious - but could there be more to it?
Whenever we need direction, many times we’ll get the answer when reading the Bible. That’s the main way the Spirit tells us what to do - through His Word. So if the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God - which means the Spirit uses the scriptures to speak to us - wouldn’t it just make sense to be acquainted with the tool He uses the most?
After all, when we’re familiar with a verse or passage, it’s easier for God to communicate a truth to us. So I need to stay in God’s Word so when he needs to talk to me, I’ll be ready.
Quite possibly, if I know more scripture, he might speak to me more!!
Yes, it truly is time I give him more to work with.
And remember if you want to hear from the Lord more, you must give him more to work with.
For instance spend more time with him, memorize from scripture, and consider obeying what he has already told you. (Why would he tell you more if you haven’t obeyed what you’ve already been told.)
Yes, give him more to work with.
