Understanding God's Ways

by Lucinda Reyna

Spoiler Alert: we can’t.

We can, however, learn to trust Him.
That’s what trust and faith are: believing and following without understanding—
actually, without questioning.

How hard is that for you?
To follow—to obey—without knowing the plan?

Are you the type that enjoys the fun or adventure of the unexpected?
Or are you the type that needs to know the plan first before making a move?
Maybe you’re the type that is action-oriented and plows ahead, not thinking you even need instructions.

Can we consider that God truly can bring about good in spite of horrendous circumstances?
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
—Corrie ten Boom

Can we comprehend that God will allow uncomfortable situations to happen in order to accomplish His ultimate good?
—Joni Eareckson Tada

Can we imagine God taking us through a difficult situation—or season—that will bring about spiritual growth and faith in our personal lives, instead of delivering us from it? Taking you through it instead of delivering you from it?
(An illness, a wayward child, an abusive situation, a financial crisis, a division in your family—or where you’re employed—or even at your church?)
Can you trust that God will bring you through something even though it won’t be easy?

I saw a T-shirt recently that said it all:
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”

A couple of thoughts/questions about going through a tough season:
Wouldn’t it bring more glory to God if He simply healed you?
Wouldn’t it bring more glory to God if He miraculously delivered you from that abusive situation?
Wouldn’t it make more sense for God to just give you another job or form of employment?

Are we simply afraid of change?
Or are we afraid of the pathway to change?
Let’s face it—we don’t even want to be inconvenienced, even when we understand that inconvenience is a necessary path to help us learn to be more patient.

I’m concerned that we as Christians always want things to be easy.
In fact, we tend to think we should have an easier life if Christ is part of it!
Be truthful: who would sign up for Christianity if there wasn’t the promise of Heaven?

What do you think about the events that have happened over the past year concerning President Trump?
Do you think God played a role in protecting him?

Regardless of what you think about him, wouldn’t you say that God is using him?

I couldn’t help but think about the outcome…
Did God spare his life for a purpose?

What about Charlie Kirk? Do you think God is using that event for ultimate good?

Could you trust God with your life? Or your child’s life? Or your health?
This idea of trust is a heavy one for sure.

Have you ever been in a life-or-death situation?

God is saying:
“Trust Me. Even though what you go through will be hard, you’ll get through it okay.
The end result will be worth it.”

God is asking:
“Are you willing to remove the safety nets that you have been keeping in place because you’re afraid of what I may tell you or ask you to do?”

Could you jump out—take a leap of faith—believing God will catch you?

Do you realize Jesus had to trust that He would be brought back to life?

Another uncomfortable question:
How do we reconcile that God uses ungodly people to accomplish His purposes?
In other words, can we fathom God working through the life of—and even blessing the life of—an unbeliever while accomplishing His will? (King Cyrus)
So basically, can we trust God to use and work in the lives of ungodly government leaders or rulers to accomplish His will?

Consider that we may experience more of this violence in the upcoming months.
I think we’re going into a season where we’ll see the enemy pulling out all the stops.
We may witness unusual events—all in an effort to get our attention and bring us back to God.

Consider that God is trying to wake the church up.
